Directions

• Apply a thin layer to affected areas once or twice daily

• Do not exceed 100g per week

• Avoid use on the face, genitals, or damaged skin

• Wash hands thoroughly after use

• Store below 25°C

• Keep in original packaging

Ingredients

Active Ingredient:

• Calcipotriol 50 micrograms per gram

Other Ingredients:

• White soft paraffin

• Liquid paraffin

• Alpha-tocopherol

• Disodium edetate

• Butylhydroxytoluene

Side Effects

Common side effects may include:

• Skin irritation

• Redness or itching

• Dry skin

• Burning sensation

Serious (rare) side effects:

• Allergic skin reaction

• Calcium level imbalance

• Worsening of psoriasis

Stop the medicine and seek medical attention if serious side effects occur.

Warnings

Do not use Dovonex Ointment if allergic to calcipotriol or any listed ingredients. Not suitable for use on the face, around eyes, or on broken skin. Avoid excessive exposure to UV light. Monitor calcium levels in long-term use. Not advised during pregnancy or breastfeeding without medical supervision.

Dovonex Ointment is a topical treatment used in the management of chronic plaque psoriasis, a condition characterised by thickened, inflamed patches of skin. It contains calcipotriol, a synthetic vitamin D analogue, that directly addresses the underlying cause of psoriatic lesions—abnormal skin cell turnover.

How It Works
Calcipotriol works by binding to vitamin D receptors in the skin, which helps normalise the rate of skin cell division and maturation. In psoriasis, skin cells are produced much faster than normal, leading to a build-up that causes plaques and scaling. By slowing this process, Dovonex effectively reduces plaque thickness, redness, and scaling. It also helps restore the normal appearance and texture of the skin.
