Side Effects

Common side effects may include:

• Decreased libido

• Erectile dysfunction

• Ejaculation disorders

Serious (rare) side effects:

• Breast tenderness or enlargement

• Allergic reaction

• Depression or mood changes

Stop the medicine and seek medical attention if serious side effects occur.

Warnings

Do not take Dutasteride if allergic to dutasteride or other 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors. Not suitable for women or children. Avoid skin contact with leaking capsules. May affect PSA test results. Inform your doctor before donating blood or undergoing prostate screening.

Dutasteride 0.5mg Capsules are a prescription treatment primarily used to manage symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), a non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate gland in men. This condition can cause urinary problems such as difficulty urinating, weak stream, and frequent nighttime urination. Dutasteride may also be prescribed off-label to treat male pattern hair loss (androgenetic alopecia).

How It Works
Dutasteride is a dual 5-alpha-reductase inhibitor. It blocks both Type I and Type II isoenzymes responsible for converting testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a hormone that contributes to prostate enlargement and hair loss. By reducing DHT levels in the body, Dutasteride helps shrink the prostate gland and, in off-label use, reduce hair follicle damage and miniaturisation.

Important Note
Dutasteride is not suitable for use by women or children. Pregnant women should avoid handling broken or leaking capsules due to potential absorption through the skin. Blood donation should be avoided for at least 6 months after stopping treatment. Regular monitoring of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels is recommended during therapy.
