Directions

Please refer to the medication’s patient information leaflet before starting any new medication.

• Apply a thin layer to affected skin twice daily

• Gently rub in until fully absorbed

• Do not cover with bandages unless advised

• Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes

• Use moisturisers at least 15 minutes after application

• Store below 25°C

• Keep in original packaging

• Keep out of reach of children

Side Effects

Common side effects may include:

• Burning or warmth sensation at the application site

• Skin irritation

• Redness or itching

• Dry skin

Serious (rare) side effects:

• Skin infections

• Lymph node swelling

• Allergic reactions (rash, hives, swelling, difficulty breathing)

• Photosensitivity

Stop the medicine and seek medical attention if serious side effects occur.

Warnings

Do not use Elidel if allergic to pimecrolimus or any ingredients listed. Avoid use on infected, broken, or severely inflamed skin. Not suitable for children under 2 years of age. Use with caution in patients with weakened immune systems. Avoid exposure to sunlight and tanning beds during treatment. Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless specifically advised by a doctor.

Elidel Cream is a non-steroidal topical treatment prescribed for mild to moderate atopic dermatitis (eczema) in adults and children over 2 years old. It is used when conventional corticosteroids are unsuitable or not well tolerated. Elidel helps reduce inflammation, itching, and redness associated with eczema flare-ups, supporting skin recovery and symptom control.

How It Works
The active ingredient in Elidel is pimecrolimus, an immunomodulator that targets the underlying inflammatory response in eczema. It acts by blocking calcineurin, an enzyme necessary for the activation of T-cells in the immune system. By inhibiting this immune pathway, Elidel reduces the production of inflammatory substances, which helps alleviate the itch, redness, and swelling in the affected skin areas. Unlike topical steroids, it does not cause skin thinning, making it suitable for delicate areas like the face and neck.
