Directions

• Take once daily in the evening or as directed

• Can be taken with or without food

• Swallow whole with water

• Do not exceed prescribed dose

• Store below 25°C

Ingredients

Active Ingredient:

• Fluvastatin sodium (20mg, 40mg, or 80mg depending on the variant)

Other Ingredients:

• Lactose monohydrate

• Cellulose

• Magnesium stearate

• Titanium dioxide

• Gelatin (for capsules)

Side Effects

Common side effects may include:

• Headache

• Nausea

• Indigestion

• Muscle pain

Serious (rare) side effects:

• Liver enzyme abnormalities

• Severe muscle breakdown (rhabdomyolysis)

• Allergic reaction

Stop the medicine and seek medical attention if serious side effects occur.

Warnings

Do not take Fluvastatin if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have active liver disease. Use caution in patients with a history of liver impairment or alcohol abuse. Report any unexplained muscle pain, especially if accompanied by fatigue or fever. Routine liver function tests are recommended.

Fluvastatin is a cholesterol-lowering medication belonging to the statin class. It is prescribed to reduce elevated total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and triglycerides, while modestly increasing HDL cholesterol. This helps prevent the progression of atherosclerosis and reduces the risk of serious cardiovascular events in patients with risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes, or a history of heart disease.

How It Works
Fluvastatin acts by inhibiting the enzyme HMG-CoA reductase in the liver, which plays a central role in the production of cholesterol. By limiting cholesterol synthesis, the liver increases its uptake of LDL cholesterol from the bloodstream, resulting in lower circulating levels. This mechanism not only reduces LDL but can also stabilise arterial plaques, improving long-term cardiovascular outcomes.
